Default Oil Check Help

Bought a 99 Avenger a couple months ago. Had the oil changed couple days ago at my usual place. Checking the dipstick later, it seems that it might be overfilled. The dipstick on the "backside or underside" has oil way past the max mark. On the "topside" it's just at the max. It seems to have a lot of extra oil on the stick, though. Whenever I checked the oil after I bought the car (or on any other car I owned) I don't remember this situation. Anyone else have this experience?

Is this hot or cold? Also, only look at the where the bulk of the oil is and not the stream that gets on the edges. I'm not sure what you mean by "backside" or "underside". It's either front of back of the dipstick, front has the marks and the back..well, it's blank, lol.
So, let's just call it the front and back...above the max or below the min.
From what I can make out, past the distractors, the bulk of the oil sits on/around the "max" line (preferrably below the line).

Thanks for the reply, helped me out there. The bulk of the oil is above the max (less than a quarter inch) when I checked it after sitting overnight. The stream on the edges had concerned me, but I'll overlook that now.
The dipstick only has indentations for marks , but the backside I mentioned is the closest to where I'm standing (that curves "under" when it's fully inserted.) I'm thinking the extra oil on that side was the edge thing you mentioned.
Rechecking the paper I got, it looks like they put in 4.5 quarts. I think I saw someone mention 4.2 liters once?? Think I'm okay. lol
