Does anyone know if a 4.7 2nd gen motor will bolt up to a 2001 dakota (currently has a 1st gen 4.7). will the motor mounts, trans, throttle, etc hook up?

My 4.7 is getting pretty worn and would like to put the second gen (2008) motor in it if it doesn't involve a major headache

Sort of confused with the question. Maybe this should be put in the 2nd gen dakota section to get more responses since your 2001 is a 2nd gen.

There was no 4.7 in the 1st gen dakotas (1996 and older) only the 4cyl, 6 cly (3.9), and 8cyl (5.2).

I think your off one generation. Your question should be in the 2nd gen section and should ask: "Does anyone know if a 4.7 3rd gen (2008) motor will bolt up to my 2nd gen (2001) dakota?"
