Drifting
I just got some new low profile tires, and have been having a lot of fun in empty parking lots. I just wanted to say that i am amazed at the handling on this vehicle and the power that it can output.
1987 3.9L obviously a dodge dakota.
I am concerned about cops though, anyone from kansas city know a good place to practice drifting? Ever since i pulled off 15 seconds with no traction doing a 360 and a figure 8 in one slide, i have done nothing but crave it.

I'm sure you have but Google is a good place to start, type in drifting and Kansas City. www.craigslist.org
Lets see some pics and videos.

trust me, i have scoured google. i have settled for a large, dirt field 20 miles from work(45 miles from home). it has a border of trees on all but one side and is 1mi by 2mi from roads, so cops are not likely. im going to see if my friend wants to come along. i had some issues with my wheels today and reverted to stock, but once i resolve all that, i want to video it. once my paint is done, i will post pics, but it looks really crappy right now. I work about 60 hours a week at two jobs, have high school, and college on two nights, so it is taking me a while to fix/upgrade everything i want.
i have a 91 4cyl manual... well long story short my speed gauge doesnt work so i want to put a tach in it. ya i know that a new speed cable would be easyer but i just like the tach... well my 4cyl has a magneto not a coil... well i spliced into the neg side pin g on red plug and all i get is a lot of random movement on the gauge... is there a different way to hook it up or should i give up
I agree. I dont know if you hit a wrong button or what, but you are not going to have much luck here. I kind of stopped paying attention to what i read, but will go over it again since i did attempt to install a tach, but failed due to some incompatibility issue, or maybe just a bad ground... Ive been too lazy to take another look at it, but i think we might be able to help each other on this one.

Again, assuming you actually are at this point for a reason, and assuming you have a standard 4-wire, standard color tach, connect the white wire to a circuit that is activated when you activate the headlights. Connect the red to a circuit that has battery power whenever the key is turned to the accessory position, or the engine running. The green wire goes to the output side of the magneto, and the black wire goes to a quality ground. Ground it to something that doesnt have a lot of electrical activity. The ground wire that the speakers/radio use is a very bad idea. Power windows ground is a bad idea. Isolated part of the chassis with a good, solid connection - strip away the paint, maybe some conductive grease material, tighten the connecting bolt well.
Make sure the tach is set for a four cylinder.
If this still doesnt work, either you are SOL, or you could modernize your truck a bit and get a real ignition coil. That should work fine.
