New sound system
Got some new speakers, put them in my toolbox and walked out of the junkyard with about $500 worth of speakers, paying only $2 for the admission fee. I used to have 4 speakers in my truck, two in front, mounted in the door, and two on the side panels below the seatbelt mounts. I now have seven/eight. I replaced the existing ones with the new, better ones. I added some to the door panel, there used to be a vent mounted there, so i drilled a couple holes and mounted some there. I added two speakers to the back, they are rated 500W peak, 90W nominal. On the driver side i took out the old one and put in the new one, when i got to the passenger side, i decided to keep the old one, and just add the new one, that is why i have seven/eight speakers. I am going to put the old one back in on the left tomorrow. The new ones dont fit in the existing location, so i decided that unused space could be used for the old ones.
The quality is great, and it is defeningly loud. I lost my antenna one day when i left it on the tonneau cover on the back and forgot about it, so some stations come through a bit staticy, and it sound horrible, but on the ones with good reception, it sounds great. I am going to build an amplifier tomorrow, cause im guessing it might be difficult for a $30 headunit to supply 1.8KW of power.....
I also want to put some in the bed, activated by a switch for when my coworkers and i go on a smoke break, we can listen to music. (I have a tonnaeu cover, so they would be safe from rain/snow/etc. And i am thinking of putting a set in the engine compartment for when i am working around there. I am concerned the heat may cause problems. Anyone know what kind of conditions speakers can take without damage?
The weatherstripping on my truck is old and cracking and falling away. That will be my next project to protect the speakers in the door.
I will post some pics tomorrow.

I havent forgotten about posting the pics. I have decided to add more to the system. I added two speakers mounted near the end of the truck bed for use while smoking with coworkers, to listen to music. I want to put in an amplifier, and a series of switches so i can turn off the rear speakers when in the cab, or turn off the front speakers when outside the vehicle. I was going to take pics of what i have accomplished thus far, including adding mounts for the 500W speakers, and adding the additional two to the bed, but i ran out of daylight, and my phone doesnt have flash. I picked up a couple amplifiers from the junkyard, but there are so many wires! I have no idea what goes to what. I am in college for an electrical wiring certificate, i know 10 times more than what they are teaching, and have always been good with electricity, but i cannot figure this thing out. I have 4 amps, one of which has two seperate devices, that are connected with many wires. They are all OEM parts, and dont have any kind of instructions on the internet, so i have to kind of guess what wires go to what. Obviously is i see brown, and brown with stripe, that is a speaker, red is power, black is ground, but it is still a lot to try and figure out, so i am going to hold off on the amp for a while.
I will mount an amp to the back wall, behind the seats for appearances, and take pictures then. I work all day tomorrow and thursday, so it may be a couple days til i can get to it.

I finally found a use for all those relays too. I am going to build a circuit for keyless entry to my truck. That circuit alone requires almost 70 relays.
There is the main switch circuit that advances the path each time you press the correct button, there is a circuit that resets the entry if the wrong button is pressed, and one that just makes a lot of noise to make sure that someone cant listen to see if they pressed the right button. I will scan and upload some photos of the circuits, whenever i finally get around to photographing the speakers.
I have more than 300 relays, and about 500 fuses. Maybe 70 light bulbs.
