Project car
Well, here's whats happening...
My transmission is beginning to develop more issues than before.
My oil pan drain plug stripped out, both bolt and socket(I am not strictly stating this as fact, but i may have, potentially used a pneumatic impact wrench on it...) Plugged it with jbweld, worked in a pinch, but will make the next change a pain in the ***.
There is a grinding sound when I am going slow. Think it is the tranny, but it seems to get worse when the wheel is turned.
The left side of my truck is about 3 inches lower than the right side... WTF is up with that? That cannot be normal... Yes i checked the tires, and was on a level surface.
The battery crapped out, but i replaced since I had to.
Basically, as soon as i can get my hands on another vehicle, i am pulling this from the road for a while.
I want to rebuild the transmission, maybe engine as well. Replace all the belts, maybe upgrade to iriduim spark plugs. Open element air intake, new cat-back.
But what to do with the truck then?
I am thinking turn it into a storm chasing vehicle...
My coworker and I love to go storm chasing, and live in tornado valley.
The truck has the frame for it, back when they made cars out of steel, not plastic.
But i need some ideas of what it might cost, and suggestions on what i need for the conversion.
Im thinking larger fuel jets ( this thing has no power). A venturi system to protect from water getting into the air intake. An extra set of lights plus flashers. Repaint it with truck bed liner to protect from hail.
Laptop mount.
My horn button has been removed from the steering wheel after i punched it into a state of total destruction. I would like to mount my old android phone in its place and use it as a GPS.
There has to be more though, any ideas or comments much appreciated.

Not to rain on your parade, but the phone in the wheel will not be safe at all. I mean on top of how not safe it is to chase storms, I love doing it to, but sometimes it is really dumb! I would say you should probably always take a friend, not that I am condoning it.
The money you would have in it to do that would lets just say a lot.
I am confused on what exactly is the vehicle? If it is a Dakota, that doesnt really sound very safe either, as compared to other trucks not very heavy, not very wide. The rhino lining paint job wont really protect from large hail, it will still dent, just possibly wont lose any of the finish.
There are plenty of things to do. I think you should research a lot more, of things you can do to your vehicle, and also storm chasing. And by research I dont mean watching StormChasers.
