Default Torsion Bar Crossmember Drop

Found a lot of rust at the weld between the frame and the crossmember for the torsion bars. Instead of grinding and welding it back up as it is half way separated on one side, i'm considering cutting the crossmember off and weld on some brackets to mount it 2" lower. Assuming all the welds were good quality and using 1/4 inch plate steel would this be a good idea? Also, I am guessing that this should max out the lift in the front without cranked bars therefore leaving good ride quality and articulation?

Its a good idea if you already have the keys maxed. You think it will improve your articulation but it won't. The control arms are maxed out when you crank up the keys. The only way to get more articulation with lift is to drop the control arms mounting down.
