A recent trip and milage
First about my truck. It's a '94 Dakota 2WD, extended cab, with a '98 5.9, 5.2 PCM, converted returnless to return fuel system running 60 psi of fuel pressure, a 46RH transmission and a 3:55 rear end.
I just got back from a trip to California to deliver a customer's car and pick up another. In CA when towing you can only drive 55 mph. When towing it's advised to turn off overdrive. Well it's pretty hilly where I was so I'd turn on overdrive when going down hill. Traveling at 60 mph, turning overdrive on downhill, with the a/c on I netted 14.8 mpg. The car I was towing back was an '86 Dodge Daytona missing the interior and everything under the hood was there. That car weight about 2800 lbs.
Two weekends ago I helped a friend tow a car from Tucson to Phoenix. Going down with an empty tow dolly traveling 75 mph (the legal limit), A/C off, and O/D on I netted 14.8 miles per gallon. On the way back towing an '89 Shelby CSX which probably weighs as much as the Daytona, traveling about 65/70 mph, a/c on, and O/D off the whole way I got 12.5 mpg.
Just thought I'd share
