Default 89 dodge friend

Howdy!
Hope this is not the wrong place to seek advice.
89 Dakota 3.9 not starting after tune up.
rotor and cap should both be in correct position....with notches aligned.
New wires set per haines manual...marked one on distributor, continued through number six, clockwise.
Pickups in distributor not bumped visibly.
Turns over normally, then hitches up for a second...turns, then slows down, no starting.
getting spark, but not in the right order or something.
Baffled...any help appreciated

check the firing order. It sounds like you have the wires in the wrong position on the cap. Check the firing order from a book and match it up with yours.

the firing order should be marked on the intake(atleast my 3.9 has it). on the distributor there is a spot marked for cylinder 1(on the distributor itself not the cap). start from there and follow the firing order and hook the wires up in order. be cautious when following the firing order in the manuals. my friend did that and found the book was wrong on the firing order.
