Truck running very rough cant even go the speed limit dont know what its is

it is a 1993 dodge Dakota it has a 3.9 v6 5 speed it was sitting for a month I went to start it. it backfired when it tried to start. when it did start it was running very rough. I went to take it to the shop up the road it would cut off every 2 miles it was hard to start every time I got it towed home I was told it could be a crank sensor or a fly wheel I don't know if that is what could cause that are not

 

Could be as simple as bad gas or water in the gas tank. Check engine light on?
