Default ever lower a Dakota?

Has anyone tried to lower a Dakota? I have been looking at a few of the Air Bag suspension kits and am wondering if they replace the existing springs and shocks. From what I can read into the product description they are mostly used to help support a heavy load and not as a stand alone product. I am looking at using a Dakota frame and putting a older Dodge body on it. More of a street rod project. I don't want a ground scrapper. Just something that will ride and drive dependable.

If it's a 4x4, you can always swap to a 2WD rear axle (which has the spring mounts on the bottom, not the top).

There's some work on it in the various forums, I just don't understand why for a truck myself.

No I just have to ask "WHY?" When others do.
