Beach Driving Maintenance
I have a stock '89 sport 4x4 and plan on doing some beach driving. Assuming, I will avoid the waterline and will only drive on flat, soft, dry sand would it be neccessary to rinse the undercarriage afterwards? Or is that a bad idea anyway? Also if I plan to do a lot beach driving, are there any coatings that I should think about spraying on?
This is a newbie question, but I could not get a clear answer from the pinned "off-road thread" Also what would be the HIGHEST recommended PSI that I can run on the stock 29 inch tires? Thank you!

First - !I! would wash it off, if for nothing else than to keep possible dust/sand impaction causing problems.
Second - Depends on the size and the weight. But I'd compare weight loads/inflation pressures from the stock tire and pressure recommendations against the load/inflation chart for the new tires (and remember, "29 inch tires" only give ONE of the dynamics required to adjust for weight!)

The Los Angeles Fire Department runs Jeeps on the beach all the time. I think after three years they basically fall apart. Definitely rinse it afterward. I got a few Florida cars when I ran a salvage yard. They all had rotten bodies. The salt spray goes fairly far inland. Back in the 60's, we used to take old motor oil and spray under cars to keep them from rusting with the winter salt. We would spray the entire underside and park it on a dirt road and let it drip for a few hours.
Spray with fresh water really thoroughly after each beach run. You have an older vehicle without later rust proofing technology.
I think POR-15 will do it. Try looking at Eastwoods site and see what they have. Keep in mind, just one small pin hole will let salt in and it will eat away inside while looking good outside.
