Default Engine swap. 90 Dakota.

Hi all.
Im looking at building a truck on a 90 Dakota platform and im looking into swapping the 3.9L out and replacing it with a carbed 360 from my 79 Ramcharger.
Ive searched through the forum here and have yet to find such a swap listed.
All i really need to know is......

1. Will the 4spd auto from the 3.9L fit the 5.9L and what is necessary to make it a smooth fit?

2. What is needed to bolt in the 5.9L into the frame of the 90 Dakota?

3. Is it basically a straight swap?

Im building the Dakota chassis with the V8 and mounting my 1942 Dodge 1/2 ton body to it.

Ill check back in a day or so.

Thanks for any info. Rstyduck.

Ok.
Heres what ive found out so far.

The V6 came with the A500 and the V8 came with the A518.
The A500 will bolt up to the 360 as will the A518. Both need a balance weight welded onto the torque converter.
The A500 will handle the 360 if you dont abuse it.
The A518 will take the punishment alot better. (Still not a TF727 but it is a 4spd.)

Run a toggle switch to the OD solenoid to engage OD when your on the highway.
Also if you would like you can run a toggle to engage the lock up converter. (I wont be.)

Seems simple enough.
Now onto the engine mounts. (Which are easily modified if needed.)

Thanks again for any input.

Anyways, the A-500 can handle up to 500hp if built right. I beat the crap out of mine and it holds well.Knock on wood..Quite a few people use them for the OD.

You can use an LA360 bolted to a NON-weighted converter, just buy the balanced BandM flexplate.

I used a switch for the OD.

The engine mounts you can fab up some of your own for like 15 bucks or pay the 300-400 for the Schumachers.

You will also need the specially made Milodon oil pan to fit (expensive and junk) or use a Magnum 360 oil pan to fit.

Hey that sounds like a great idea.
Thanks.

The Magnum pan works eh?

Never thought of that but easy fix..
