I believe I have the brake problem fixed now...turns out the cylinders were leaking. Had to run new brake lines since the connectors had become one with the cylinders and there was no turning back since I sheared off one of the bleeders. Ran new line, placed new cylinders bled the lines and everything seems ok. I still have a problem with the driver's side rear brake grabbing the drum. It seems to let go after a bit but does anyone know why it would do that? When I changed the cylinders out I had to let off the adjusters so I could put the drums back on because it was quite a scene to pull them off in the first place. In reverse there is no grabbing. Only when I am going forward. I have not adjusted my parking brake cable so that's not the problem. If anyone might have an idea on what the problem is I'd like to hear about it.
Last Friday as I was coming home from work, My parking brake felt like it didn't disengage. My brakes would grab as though the vehicle was brand new. I pulled off the raod a couple times to try the parking brake again to see if it would release. It finally did after the second attempt but a couple stops later my brake pedal went straight into the floor. I must have driven about 5-10 miles before I tried the parking brake thing. Then after a few more stops I had to start double-pumping the brakes to get them to grab. As I turned the corner to my house,my ABS light came on then went off when I started going straight again. I got the truck home, wrestled the wheels off, pulled the drums off and noticed the passenger-side rear brake shoes had quite a hold on its drum. Inspecting the wheel cylinder I saw a torn cover. Looking at the assembly I see a shiny residue on the shoe body on the front-facing one. I checked my brake fluid and it seems OK butI topped it off anyway. Saturday morning I checked the front calipers, the entire brake-line system icluding the booster, reservoir, and the aluminum blocks the brake lines come out of (ABS?) and the block-splitter for the rear brakes. Everything looks good and no leaks. Other than the right rear brake assembly and the old cylinder, things look OK. One more thing, I started the truck after adding the brake fluid hoping the level was low would be the problem and I had both the ABS and the red brake warning light on. I checked the connector going to the block with the two cylinders(?) on top to see if I perhaps had a bad connection, but everything seemed OK Any Ideas on what this could be? I am hoping it is the rear cylinder, if so, These parts are original and are seized up pretty good...how would I go about loosening the brake lines from the cylinders and what is the technique in doing so? One of the bleeders sheared off closed. Gives me an excuse to change both of them now. Hopefully you see the pictures to see what I am talking about. I can get more if that would help. I just need this fixed as I am not about to go to a shop if I can repair this myself.
