Default strange taillight problem

I have an 89 Dakota LE and I have a funky problem with my driver side tail light. When I have the lights on, it is lit, but when I apply the brakes, the light goes out. When the lights are off, the brake light lights up. The turn signal doesnt blink, so I have to do it manually, but if I have the brakes on, it barely does anything. When it rains, everything works fine. I have noticed that the flashing speed varies after it starts to dry, and then it does back to not flashing. I thought maybe it was the ground, but I ran a new ground wire from the light and grounded it to clean metal on the frame, but nothing has changed. This is very frustrating! I have to drive this in the city, so I dont want to get hit because someone couldnt see my directional. Can anyone give me some advice/help???

Default RE: strange taillight problem

try changing the flasher to fix the directional problem, did that on my sundance years ago, thought it was bulb, but flasher went out. as for the brake light problem, check continuity in all the wires that go to that light, it sounds like another one of your wires is corroded/broken. happened on sis's truck, but on pass side, this fixed the problem - hope it works for you.
