92 Dakota swap question???
Ok this may have been driven into the ground but I do have a question about this. I have heard that its a pretty simple swap from the 3.9 to the 5.2. Does the computer just swap out or would it be a good idea to get a computer from a 5.2? Would I need to change the wiring harnesses or would it be a better idea to go with the new AEM computer system and go the route of being able to do all the computer mods with my laptop? My Dakota is really starting to loose its power and I thought that this winter would be the best time to do the swap, build up a nice 318 put a little power to it and make a sweet running 4X4 Sport. In the looks department it still looks great and I just had the tranny rebuild and I had it beefed up to handle the added power of a V8 if I were to add one. Any help would be great guys!!!
Yes it is a easy swap .You need a 5.2 computer and 2 wires from a donor harness .You can remove the pins from a donor plug with a small flat screwdriver .Pin 17 goes to injector 7 and 18 goes to injector 8. Switched power goes to the other pin on the injector.
Oh and don,t forget to change the flex plate to a 5.2 neutral balanced flex plate. If you want aftermarket EFI you could do as I did.
88 Dakota 2.2 5 speed 7 1/4
to
95 Magnum A518 O/D 8 1/4
Megasquirt EFI

Thanks a lot guys. If I was to do some mods to the 5.2 what are some good things to do? I know the normal stuff, cam port the heads, bore out the block that kind of stuff. I am looking to make in the neighborhood of 300-325hp but I want it to be totally dependable. I dont think thats asking to much, right?
