Did he fill it too much?

What I would do is drain the whole system and use ATF +4

Shouldn't be an issue letting it sit then doing it. Or it could just be that luck and it was time for the transmission to go. I've had that happen before.

you'd be better off doing a tranny flush and maybe changing the filter. Draining the pan may not get all of it out.

might have to go to dealer or junk yard for clip thing. a good piece of wire or zip tie will work just as well.

since fluid is stored in pan, vb, torque converter, lines, and cooler, its impossible to drain it all. dropping pan only gets about half of it out.

you could take it to a transmission shop/service place for a full flush.

or you could change it this week, and then drive it a little and change it again in a couple of days.

or if you can stand the down time, remove pan and filter and drain. take battery cable loose to disable truck - so you don't forget and take off somewhere.. loosely put pan back on. remove trans cooler lines at a low points and let then drain. let truck sit for about 24 hrs and a lot of fluid will drain back into the pan. that doesn't get it all, but a lot of it.
