how much torque can the Automatic transmission handle in these Dakota's? i need a transmission that can handle atleats 300ft lbs. the Rams transmissions are too big but the Dakota's are just fine.

I have heard the v8 tranny the 46rh can handle alot of power. over 300. as long as your not beating the sh*t out of it. The 46re is the 97 and newer and they also can handle the horsepower. The only thing if your going 300 or over is the cooling. Make sure you cool it more than just the radiator get an external raidator cooler the larger the better.

42s are in the V6s, I used mine again in my 360 build. I have easily over 325+ lbs of torque and over 400hp on it. Runs just fine, and I know many that use it in hot-rod trucks.

For real? Because the Ram 1500and Dakota share the same transmissions, 42R(H 1995 and below, E 1996 and up) and 46R(H 1995 and below, E 1996 and up).
I believe the 46's came behind the V8s only.
