Transmistion, Govenor?
Hey there people I'm new to the forum but have been on many of car forums with my other ride,if I told you what that was you guys would probly hate me.....heeh
Anyways I bought a 92 Dodge Dakota LS 3.8L V6 Automatic RWD for only $100
I bought it from my buddie and when he had it (and it still does this) it shifts really weird as if it was almost slipping but I am sure its not slipping. First gear runs fine but it shifts really early even on full throttle around 3-4 grand, and then on light throttle it goes to go into second but then shifts really fast to 3rd gear, and then no matter the pressure in 3rd gear it feels like a stick shift becasue it wont shift into 4th unless you go really easy on the gas, runs really strong in 3rd gear. It does this no matter if OD is on or off, but if you manualy shift it from 1-2-D it runs normal depending how you shift it. Though when you go 2 to Drive it will slip if you are on full throttle. Researching this I found on alldata that its most likey the govenor because there was a recall on it awhile back. I don't think its slipping because I'm sure the trans will be shot by now, it has 144,000 miles and i got it with 130,000. I add lucas tranny oil and I am afraid to change the fluid if infact it is slipping. Let me know what you guys think!!! THANKS!!

Welcome! Well I would think it is the the TV cable I think the chevy guys call it downshift cable. I have had mine detareate on me. I had to buy a new one. It is the one that connects to the side of the tranny and conects to the throttle body. It controls when your truck shifts acording to throtle postion. It can be adjusted at the throttle body. I do drag racing with mine so I have a certain postion I like toadjust the cable toso I can get the most out of my shifts. Push in the tab and slide in or out. If yours is shot just like mine was it will act up just like that. dealer is the only one I could find that had it. That is if your truck is only messing up on the shifts. It also would be a good Idea to do a tranny oil change. If the oil is dirty or just old it can make it slip and shift incorrectly too.
Awesome, Yes I looked at that and I thought it was like a spring loaded one like the throttle cable that arent adjustable, ususaly on most cars all you need it two wrenches. Tranny Fluid is clean and not dirty, but I have always thought that was actualy the problem (the TV cable) but I can't remeber who told me that, that wasnt adjustable and I thought he was crazy. I'll take a look my good friend, thank you very much!
BUDDY THAT WAS IT THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN!!!
Omg I was looking at this thing on how to adjust it because I was like nah it cant be that easy and it really was, a fricking button and then you slide it back and forth, It was all the way to the front so it was loose as jenna jameson. I put it all the way back and that **** now takes off, so I have it half in half to run smooth. AGAIN THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I have a question to add to this...with my truck, '96 5.2 2wd, i think the tranny is slipping. when driving it, no matter what the throttle...mild, moderate, wot, and no matter wether it is warmed up or cold, it wont shift into 3rd without leting off the throttle (once in a while it will shift ok but only if i let it run at 4500 rpms constantly for a little while.) but every other gear is fine. also, when not on the highway i run with the overdrive off. once i hit the highway i turn it on. a couple of times i have forgotten to turn the OD on until at about 70 and when i turn it on i noticed the rpm's jumped about 300-400 before shifting. are these problems related? is it slipping or could it also be the tv cable? id really rather not put a tranny it in yet...it only has 112,000mi on it.
I would have to say the T.V cable. Sounds like she is all the way tight and doenst want to shift. But then again i'm not sure but it doesnt sound like slipping to me.

Yes Cody you are correct, sorry about that, and also I don't have an LS it is an LE, I have no idea why i put LS.... And I know she is very strong espcialy now that I adjusted the cable.
V8 Dakota, it should be right were your throttle body is, look for the throttle cable and there maybe be like 3 cables, one for throttle, then cruise control then the T.V cable should be there, but dont ask me because I don't know dodges all to well.
