losing my mind help please
ok so now ive taken my starter out and reinstalled it 4 times. when its on the motor i get 12 volts to the solenoid. if i try to jump it nothing not even a click. so i remove it and hook it to an extra battery i have and bam it turns. so i put it back in, nothing agin i jump it and no go. smack it all that still nothing im gettin power to the solenoid so i dont see why it dont move when i jump it. so i remove it agin hook it toan etxtrabattery layin i have and bam works fine. repeat this step agin and nothing..... so i cut the wire between the battery and the solenoid and figure ill put a toggle switch in the cab and screw the solenoid. i try i run 12 volts starait to the sterter (bypassing the solenoid) i check with meter from hot to ground terminal and its got 12 volts. so i run a temporary ground back to the battery just to see that it will work. nothing! i stick the starter right on the neg side of the battery still nothing! so i put it back on the extra battery and bang works fine. so now im wondering ? cranking amps or somthing like that? i dont know much about all that can anyone steer me straight?
sounds like your engine is locked up. Is the housing on the starter cracked or broken? Inspect the housing on thetrannyand as much as you can where the starter goes into the housing. Look for broken pieces and brokenteeth on the fly wheel. did the starter grind beforeit locked up?Do you have auto or man tranny? Hopefully manual this will be easy to diagnose. Push start it. If it is auto you willl need to pull tranny if you cannot see any damage to inspaec it further.
Are you sure the starter is the problem, then? It sounds like the starter is acting about perfect.
Maybe the ignition switch. And I mean the actual switch and not the ignition cylinder...
