Anyone have a guess at why my Check EGR light came on as soon as I started my truck after replacing the timing chain/gears? It had never been on before. We rechecked the timing and all the vacuum hoses to make sure they were good. The EGR valve also looks to be in good working order as I did clean it out about 2 weeks ago.

Any suggestions or tips would be great!

 

btw, its an '87 Dakota w/ 3.9L.

 

I WOULD RESET THE CEL AND SEE IF IT COMES BACK ON AFTER YOU DRIVE IT A BIT. DID THE CEL COME ON AS SOON AS YOU STARTED IT UP OR DID YOU DRIVE IT A BIT FIRST?

 

nope, as soon as i fired it up the check egr light came on. and from what i can tell, both on the gauges and in the owners manual, the 87 dakota does not have an actual "Check Engine Light". only a check egr light. is this stupid? or am i just blind?

but after driving it for a while, its still on anyway.

 

did you check the codes or does the " checkengine " light come on only.
