Default Trouble with 4Low

Hey, i have a 95 Dakota sport 3.9. Today I was going out of my driveway in the snow and ice so I put it 4Lo. First it went in without a problem, but when i took it out, it made a grinding noise, then I went back down the driveway and retried it and it went in but with difficulty. I dont know what up with this, 4High works well. Im hoping its just something dumb going on.

Thanks for the help as always,
~Mike~

Sounds like its not being shifted correctly. Try to make it in 1 smoth shift from 2wd to 4lo. go like 2mph and shift the tranny into nutrel thenshift the transfer casesmoothly with no hisitations.

yeah, i was stopped completley, in neutral and foot on the brake, thats why it seemed weird. I didnt think you could be moving and shift into 4WD. Thanks for the help as always. Ill give it a try.

Yup you got it. For 4wheel high you can shift at any speed and in drive. so if your going 35 or so on a icy road you can just pull into 4wheel high. But for low and nutral you have to have into nutrel and verry slow speed like 2mph.
