Default rim and tire Q

so yeah. im looking at some BFG mud terrians for my truck, obviously.

i was thinking 33x10.5x15.

but then i noticed a newer dak. with 33x12.5xwhateverthestocksizeis

now BFG says the min rim width is 8.5" for the 12.5's

Question 1- what size do you think. i was all for the10.5". because i dont want them to stick out to far. but the 12.5" looked ****in sick!

question 2- how much will the wider ones rub? and stick out...

Your rim will dictate how far they stick out. In any case, unless you've done a real lift (not blocks and torsion bar cranking) they'll rub no matter what, 31x10.5's are thesafe max with the torsion bars cranked. Any bigger and they will start rubbing. Even those will rub from time to time. You'll need a 4" or so lift to run 33's. With 12.5" wide tires, you'll have to look at clearance issues inside the wheelwell. You would likely have to run rims with a different offset, or spacers.

so your telling me that no matter how wide of a tire i get, they wont stick out any further?
tell me how that makes sence.

lets say that the tires on my truck are 9 inches wide. if i put on a 12.5" wide tire, they wont stick out further?

Take the difference of 12.5" and 9". (3.5") Divide it by 2. (1.75")That is how much they will stick out. What 95V8Dakota4X4 is saying is they will rub no matter what unless you get offset rims. Offset rims will make them stick out further to give more inner clearance because they will stick in just as much as they stick out, therefore causing less inner clearance and therefore causing more rubbing. Without adding a full lift to the truck, the 33" tires will be very hard to turn because they will hit the front corners of the bumper with very little angling. You will need a lift for those tires. The 31" tires will rub on hard turns (turning in a parking lot, driveway, hard turn at stop sign, ect.) but it wont rub while driving down the road. Unless you plan on lifting the truck, I would stick with the 31x10.5. They wont stick out that much and they wont rub much either. My dad has a 2000 Dakota with 31x10.5's on it. When brand new, they rub under sharp cornering as i described earlier. They are about half worn down now and they dont rub at all.

(A nice looking set of fender flares will make the 31's look good too. It will look as if they are still inside the body line.)

You have the same rim as me. so most likly its 6in wide. I have 33in 12.5 bfgr at on it. There are not too big. I know that bfgr says it shouldnt be mounted on it but I have no problems with them and I do serious abuse on my tires. So you do need to crank your torsion bars and a 2in body lift for 33s. the 12.5 only rub on the frame at full lock only a 1/4 in just back the steering wheel off a 1/4 in and your clear. Other than that your good. with the 12.5 you dont need to worry about any clearences with wheel wells or anything else. Ill post A pic up soon.

Here are some pics. You can see how much the 33 x12.5 sticks outside of the body as well as the wheels. I think it is not to much. Just remember some of the angles I took pictures make it look more than it is. In one you can see where it rubs on the frame only at full lock.

I have 32's with very minimal rubbing, but they stick out about an inch or two with 8" rims.
