doesnt blow hot, blows warm??
91 dakota 5.2L
The truck warms up to normal temp, the heater core hoses are both hot, the fan blows, but it just doesnt blow hot air. what could cause this? havent done a rad flush or heater core flush yet because im arguing with a guy that thinks that is not the problem. What else could it be?

could be a pocket of air in the heater core, the heater core is partially plugged or (if used) the heater control valve is not opening all the way. I'd guess the core is plugged...it's an easy fix and cost about $1.50 for a hose coupler as noted in the link below:

More than likely a stopped up core. I did see one case where the water pump impeller blades were half rusted away and the pump would not build enough pressure to supply the heater core. I was supprised that there was no overheating condition. You can confirm the heater core with garden hose flush.
yea the coolant level is good and i just did the thermostat, im positive its a clogged heater core. ill try to flush the heater core but is kinda hard in -20 C to -30 C weather that we got right now.
I have the same problem. I already replaced the blower resistor and the fan switch on the temp control unit, as well as tearing apart the dash all because the fan wouldn't come on. Now that I got the fan to work right, there's still no heat[:@]. Hopefully the flush will work. (Thanks for the link iraqvet)
I had the same problem with my 93last spring anddid the flush. There was a ton of small black specs that came out of the core....afterI did thatthe heat in the cab has been great since.
Funny that reminds me of a problemI had with an LMTV (cargo truck) when I was in Iraq. The driver complained of no heat (it gets cold there in the winter). There was coolant getting to the core but no coolant in the return hose at the water pump.Ipressurized the return hose in the cab with compressed airand a plastic shipping plug shot out of the return hose and coolant began to flow again....a 10 cent piece of plastic left in the hoseat the assembly plant caused the problem.

haha, yea thanks for the link. ill be doing that soon hopefully. Tomorrow im not going to work... suppose to feel like -50 C with wind chill BRRRRRRRRRR sucks not having heat...
You will find that on these older vehicles if you buy them used the first thing folks do if they see a coolant leak is put stop leak in the cooling system. Usually it stops up everything except the leak.
yea, i hope that crap wasnt used... if it was, a heater core flush will still clean that gung out?
i was thinking id just flush the heater core with water like iraq's link then i thought id try some of that rad flush stuff that u put in ur rad and run it for like a week or something then change the coolant.
what are your opinions on those bottles of rad flush ( know what im talking about? )
