Default Hurst Shifter debacle

I just installed a Hurst shifter part no.: 3915050 on my Dodge Dakota with AX-15 manual 5spd transmission. Although the shifter works great and I'm very satisfied, the bolts that secure the chrome stick to the shift mechnasim keep backing out and loosening. They're just allen head bolts with no nuts securing the other side. Is this how Hurst does it, or was somebody sleeping on the assembly line when my shifter was made? I was debating going to the local hardware store and getting some lock washers and some hex nuts and putting them on the other side. Is anyone experiencing this? Anyone know a good way to stop it from happening?
