Default Disconnected coolant temp sensor?

Hi all,
I've been trying to find out why my truck runs like crap when it's running half way between warm and cold. I've learned through this forum that it may be caused by a bad coolant temp sensor. To test this I need to disconnect the coolant sensor that feeds the computer (NOT thesingle wire one that feeds the dash gauge). My question is, willdriving with this sensordisconnected hurt my truck? Will it overheat? Ineed todrive about30 miles tomorrow and I don't want to wreck anything. If it matters, the air temp here in western Michiganwill be about 10*F tomorrow. Thanks in advance for your help.

i dont think it would really make all that much difference the sensor only really controls the choke and as for it overheating it doesnt controll the water pump or the thermastat so your cooling system wont really be effected

Well,
I disconnected the sensor and it didn't do what I thought it would. The idle is all out of whack. Itwould rev up to 1200 and then drop back down to 450 (or stall) repeatedly. It would notshift into 4th gear.I drove down the road about three miles and then shut off the engine to give it a good look over.I couldn't get it started again until it cooled down. It would just crank and crank and never actually start. The engine warmed up to normal temp in about 1/4 the time it usually does. I guess this is the last time I drive anything with the coolant sensor unplugged!

I had a bad one on my 92 and it caused it to down shift out of overdrive like it wanted the fan to pull more air through the radiator and it would stumble when first cranked while warmed up. It screws with the computer program.
