truck "bucks" when taking off from a stop
I have pretty much had this problem since i bought the truck, but it sort of feels like it is becoming worse, and i cannot find any reasonable reason why my truck is doing thing. When I come to a slow, rolling stop or complete stop, everything is normal. When accelerating again once in a while my truck will sort of buck. It feels like something is hitting me from behind very gently. It does not do this everytime, but 95% it does. Here is some more information:
When i first bought the truck the transfer case chain was shot, at the time i was blaming the jolt on the chain getting slack and then tightening itself when i took off again. I replaced the chain and it didnt do it for a long time. After a while it started doing it again and i just cant believe that the chain could stretch itself out that fast and cause it again. (Probably not even 3000 miles).
Then i blamed it on my brakes, i thought that maybe they were not releasing fast enough and causing it to buck, but i just replaced every base brake part (Shoes, springs, drums, hardware kit, adjust link and cable...)
I am stumped, I dont think it is a tranny buck, it just doesnt feel like it, and i am praying that it isnt. What else in my driveline could cause this? I think that it is also related to the buck that i sometimes get when i let off the gas. (My sisters 2001 jeep cheeroke does the same thing).

im brand spanking new to dakots and dont know much about them but on my 99 jeep the tc (transfer case) has a rear slip yoke, which im might possibly be sure the dakota has one too, maybe? if it does pull your rear drive shaft and lube the living daylights out of the splines on the tc and driveshaft. betcha it will fix your prob, that is if the tc has a slip yoke
just use automotive grade grease or marina grease. the shop i do paint work for uses a grease with teflon in it. I just used whatever was in my grease gun. im pretty sure its got a slip yoke, just unbolt the drivesaft from the rear diff and then slide the shaft off the yoke. MAKE SURE YOU PUT BLOCKSFRONTAND BACK OF SOME OF THE TIRES AND USE EMERGENCY BRAKE.
Definitely sounds like something slipping along the driveline, doesn't sound like the trans itsself though. Check AND LUBE everything from thetranny back. Make sure youcheck the rear diff. Could be some slippage there. Not likely, but if you're going to be under there can't hurt to checkand lubeeverything while you're at it.

i was wondering if you have done this yet? i was under the dakota today and realized that the rear of the tc has the cone style that houses the output shaft. when you take out the drive shaft youll probably loose fluid, so i dont really know if you are suppose to lube those splines up with grease or not. maybe you can, stick it back in there and stick some more fluid in the tc. i dont know
