Default Have opportunity to trade 92 kota for 88 RC..any advice?

I currently drive a 1992 Dodge Dakota CC 4x4 with 143k and new tranny, 31 x 10.50, flowmaster, roll bar...etc...etc...etc....

ON the way home from work the other day I found a 1988 RamCharger for sale along the road in a small dealership. It has the Bulletproof 318 TBI with 135k...33 x 12.50 tires..new..on black wagon wheels. CD Player. Factory Roll Bar. Faded blue with some rust on passenger side fender. LUND Visor. New Inspection.Basic Strip Down Model. The dealer will take $1500 cash or trade for my truck with $1000 cash on top into my pocket.

Is this deal worth it? MY dad had an 89 when I was little and I loved it. I've always wanted a RamCharger but the biggest thing that concerns me as an 18 year old school student, is MPG. My Dakota gets a tiny 13 on a lucky day. I asked my dad about his and he couldnt remember exactly but was guessing 13...on his 31 x 10.50.

Does anyone have a RC with a similar setup that would like to share their MPG?

Any advice is helpful. Should I keep the kota? or get a mopar 4x4 legend?

Thank you,

Charles

i would say it would be worth it because they're going to give you 1,000 on top of it. if you need to do any minor repairs on the 88 at least you have a grand to play with. I would say if you were buying a new car from a dealer they wouldnt even give you 1,000 for a trade in on the truck you currently have. My friend bought an 02 dakota and the dealer was only going to give him 100$ for his 88 dak. he said screw that he would just keep the 88, so he sold it to me for 400$, best investment i ever made. that old truck cannot be killed and it's saved my *** when my 01 dak was inoperable for a month.

I definetly would. because lets face it, you can do a hell of a lot more things with the Ramcharger. They are probably getting about the same econony, not great. Is the one less mile per gallon going to kill you? There is not much more you can do to the Dakota, its not going to go up in resale anytime soon. That Ramcharger will still be worth as much if not more when it comes down to you ever selling it. Plus the $1000 extra cash. Steal.

I would test drive the hell out of it though..

It dont sound right to me. If they give you 1000 and there asking price was 1500, That means this RC is worth 500. When your truck is worth 1000 to them. I would guess the engine or tranny is going out. Test drive it and check all fuilds. Make sure no discolleration in any of the fuilds. I almost bought a Ram 2500 with a v10 for 3000. Thats a good deal, But I checked the oil and it was red and thick. The piston rings or oil seals were probly bad and they added oil thickern to avoid rebuilding. But who knows the RC may be perfect but check everything before you sign it.
