Default Universal cruise control cables?

Hi all,
I swapped my v6 throttle body for a v8. I used one off of a '93 to put on my '94. I also installed the throttle cable and the cable bracket (or whatever you call it) from the '93. Everything went as planned until I tried to connect the cruise control cable (speed control cable). When the cable is connected it holds the throttle open a little bit and causes the truck to idle at 3,000. NOT ACCEPTABLE! I thought that the speed control cablewas universal for 1st gen. trucks, so why is my cable too short? Is there a way to adjust it? Or do I need to get a cable for a '93? Any info you can give me is appreciated. Thanks.
