Default Auto Trans 1990/2003

I have a 1990 3.9L dakota with a bad transmission in it.A friend has a 2003 dakota automatic transmission out of a truck that was also a 3.9L but his is the magnum. Should the 2003 model transmission fit in my 1990 truck?

Your 1990 most likely has the 42RH. His truck should have the 42RE.
Basically, no (or at least not very easily), since certain things in the RE series is controlled via the PCM, rather than hydraulics.

1995 and below. 1996 is when they went to the newer style transmission.
