Default Dakota Tansmission Questions

I have a friend that has a 96 dakota 2 wheel drive and the transmission went south. Will a 92 dakota transmission work as a replacement. I know the tranny that is in the truck now is a 42RE with a 3.5 ratio. The 92 has a A500 with lock up torque converter and 3.9 ratio also there is no sensor plug on the A500. Also I think the spedoused a cable.I don't know if the input shafts are the same yet. But I really don't want to start on this for him if the tanny will not work. What problems should I expect. Thanks Dave

It will work, but you will have a check engine light on. The '96 is electric, the '92 is not. Also, you would have to find a mechanical speedometer to work as well.

Find a '95 or a '96 for an easier time.
