well guys, i looked at my filter today, and i believe there should be a breather filter of some sort outside of the actual air filter?

Umm...looks normal to me! Are you talking about a pre-filter or something. The dakotas never had a pre-filter. Closest thing on the 1st gens was a black plastic plate that sits in front of the intake tube that acts as a shield from sucking up solids or water. Its located behind the grill on the passenger side, near the headlight.

 

There is a breather filter on your valve cover that has a hose that go to the air filter. I do see the hose on yours

 

yeah, i have that hose on the passenger side, i just thought there should be another round filter betwee the air filter and the circular thing its in.

If you put the lid on upsidedowm you will have 360 degree air intake......

 

really? how is that, it doesnt make a total seal all the way around?

just push that little rubber thing trough and flip it over, just tighten it down enough to seal but no squish the filter. i have had mine like that forever and you can tell a difference. you may have to get a longer stud, for it, i just made an s bolt for it and got rid of the little piece of metal on top of the throttle body. give it a try!

 

lol...the old flip thelid trick....haven't done that in years. Basically you'll be running an open element filter, without paying for a professionally made one like K&N has out. The top seals the top of the filter, keepinganything from going into the intake without passing through the filter, andallowing more air to come in the sides from the entire area of the filter rather than just through the hose that runs from the front of the engine compartment.

 

You have to flip the stud over also and just screw it in a few turns.
