Default '92 Dakota w/ V8 5.2L

I'm looking into purcashing a Dodge Dakota, and have been doing a bit of research on the make. I know the V8 is not the most fuel efficient model, the V6 I heard was better, but I do hear great things about the longevity of the Dakota. That if the upkeep is taken care of, it can run for a long time. So hopefully, what I lose in fuel efficiency I'll make up for with not having any major repairs. My old '90 GMC Sierra was starting to get a lot of expensive repair.

The Dakota I'm looking at has 153k miles at. I took it over to the mechanic who does all the work for my dad and I, and he told me it's a pretty sound truck. He looked under the hood, and checked a few things, said it was well taken care of. I'm really liking the truck, and I want to start working on my own vehicles, at least minor fixes and general upkeep type of things. Any suggestions about this particular one, words of advice, or even words of discouragement if this particular one isn't well suited. The asking price by the dealership is $1,992.

these trucks are great trucks if they are well taken care of. the 318's (5.2 litre) are tough motors. i have one myself and when im not hot-rodding around town, i get 14 city and 21 highway. mines got 121,000 miles and still going strong. i picked mine up for 2,000 from a private seller, so 1,999 is a steal.

What year and what model? They are good toughtrucks, my 93' was a sound truck with the V6, alittle on the hungry side. The V6 had the same bore and stroke as the 318s minus 2 cylinders. I had 200k on it when I sold it for 1300. The only reason I sold it is because I wanted a payment! [:'(]haha, no I just wanted a newer truck. Anyways, they do have their problems like all cars, but its nothing real major, just little quirks here and there. I guess it all depends on how you treat the truck.
