Default 94 dakota with 360 wont start

I just picked up a 94 dakota that was a v6 but the kid put a 95 ram 360 magnum in it. he changed the comp. and harness also. he only got the truck to start 2 times and it ran like crap. then it wont start. its drivin me nuts. I talked to a mopar guy and he said if the kid had put the v6 flywheel on the v8, the crank sensor wont fire right. makes sense. so i asked the kid and he said there is a good chance that he did do that, but he's not sure. so I think, why not bypass the sensor and factory coil by putting on an old style coil with a switched ignition source. that should work right? but it didnt. either the brand new coil was bad or this truck is just smarter than me. any input would be greatly appreciated.

the truck is smarter than you!!! i did the same thing on my swap from a v6 to 318 and it wont run right and will hardley start!!! plu that 360 is externally balenced so you will need one with weights on it.

You tried the 3.9 wheel also? Im gonna backprobe the crank sensor tomorow and watch the voltage spikes to see if its the right flywheel or not. but i still figured plumming in an old coil should work cause your not making the pcm decide when to fire.

It may be possible when They did the swap they crossed some wires or something. By not useing the sensor your cutting the injectors. They computer calculates where the enige is at and when to fires as well as when to spray the injectors and how long they should be. deffently check the flywheel. And Check all wires. Make sure every injector is fireing. Make sure they are firing at the right time. Best way is to get a meter out and make sure #1 injector wire is connected to #1 injector pin on the comp. Do it to every one. Oh yea do you have any codes. If you do find out what those are first, and not all codes will put out a check engine light. Go to FAQ in the section to see how to pull codes without a scanner.

yea, i am still kicking myself for not thinking about a new flexplate when i did the swap, but like crazy said the computer needs the crank sensor because even though the truck has a distributor you can not adjust the timing or anything else, all computer controlled....
