Default 89 2WD Dak odd problem

I've got a 89 dakota with a 3.9 v6. Have been hearing a odd rubbing noise for a while, not completely sure where it is coming from, but it sounds like it is coming from the differential or rear axle.

Just recently something happened to it, not sure what, but it was parked while I went to work and when I came back out, it made a horrible clunk when I put it into drive, and felt like the brakes were grabbing. When I come to a stop, I can feel tapping on the brake pedal, like the anti-lock is being weird, and if I get it up to about 45 both the anti-lock and the brake lights come on, but no engine blink codes. I put the back end up on jack stands and took the wheels and brake drums off, but the rear brakes are not grabbing. Putting it in neutral and trying to spin the axle results in me getting it around 3/4 of a turn and it getting stuck, if I put it in drive with the engine running, the wheels spin, but there's an obvious rubbing/grinding noise coming from somewhere. Also, whether on the road, or on the stands, the speedometer needle seems to jump back and forth about 5-10 mph at a time, kinda like a speed up, slow down, speed up, etc.

Replaced the u-joints but that apparently wasn't the problem.

I'm not very mechanically inclined, but have a haynes manual, and if the problem can be found, and it is easy enough and no really special tools needed, I might be able to fix it myself, otherwise there is a great, honest mechanic right down the road from here I can take it to. But I would like to find out what it is without needing to go and pay money I don't really have right now if it is something possibly simple.

Is it a LSD (Limited Slip Differential)? Does it have oil? You might want to pull the diff. cover off, and see if there is any obvious breakage/pieces in the oil.

Are your wheels and axles all straight? Maybe somebody backed into your rig while you were at work, and bent something. A bent axle might act like that.

I'm not sure why the anti-lock and brake lights come on, but, on the other hand, mine come on when I drive inheavy standingwater. I have to disconnect the ground cable from the battery to reset the anti-lock, otherwise it is prone to locking the rear brakes.

I wish I could definitively diagnose your problem, but I'm just stabbing in the dark. Good luck.
