Problem with my 4x4...
When your shifting is the truck moving at a speed. Or at a dead stop. If you are moving at a good speed and its not leting you shift, you might need a rebuild.

Low on lube or completely shot lube in the transfer case can do it at times too, check and maybe a change if it's way overdue. But if this isn't the case, it looks like it may be rebuild time...
I do it at a dead stop...itll go in gear...but gettn it out is a fight...da gear will still b spinning so it grinds...but after a good fight it will go back to neutral...yeah it might overdue on lube...ill check it out...thanx need all da help i can get...
From my '92's owner's manual: 2hto 4h or 4h to 2h, with vehicle in motion, the front axle will engage/disengage faster if you momentarily release the accelerator pedal after making the shift. If high shift effort is encountered during cold weather operation (below 30 degreesF), the following shift procedure is recommended:
1)shift from 2h to 4h while vehicle is stationary. It may be necessary to move the vehicle slightly forward or backward to engage/disengage front axle.
2)If shifting while the vehicle is moving, allow a 5 to 10 mile warm up, shift at speeds below 25 mph
4h to 4l or 4l to 4h
with the vehicle stopped, shift automatic transmission to neutral or depress clutch omn manual tranmission. Shift transfer case lever without hesitation to the desired mode. Pausing in transfer case neutral may require shutting the engine off to avoid gear clash while completing the shift. Do not attempt to shift to or from 4l with tranmission in gear.
