running problem
i have a 93 dakota 3.9 v6 with a mysterious problem, while driving the truck, the truck will just quit running,i have to wait about 5 min and it will start up again.some time you can drive the truck for 5min,to1hr to 3weeks and the truck will just die,if your lucky the truck will start in 5min or an hour some time you have to wait over night.it seems to quit when it is running hot.the mechanic my dad has taken it to is throwing parts at it and can not figure it out.we have replaced the fuel pump twice, distributer, tune up,o2senser,he even had a fuel pressure regulator hooked up to it for about 2 weeks and nothing.replaced the injectors, spark plug wires.he hooked it up to get the code and he still cant get the thing running good, its like a time bomb, you just dont know when its going to stall out. can any body give me some info or direction on what to look for or replace. thank you

Ok, to start, disconnect the battery.
Than, search the engine compartment and clean up all the grounds you can find.
A splice that supplies power to the fuel pump relay and ASD relay may be bad (known for it). It's in the wireloom that goes to the box on the left (drives side) of the engine compartment. You will need to cut open (carefully!) the wire bundle to get to the splice. I don't know exactly where the splice is. Others on here do though.
It could be something to do with the camshaft position sensor (hall-effect sensor... its under the distributor cap), or the crankshaft sensor (on the right [passenger side] of the rear of the engine, between the engine and transmission, its kinda rectangular shaped and held in with two bolts).

At 29000K the transmission started to act up. It would shift oddly, and would lurch/vibrate at slower speeds. I brought it into the dealer and had it reprogrammed. The shifting problem stopped, however the vibration and lurching continued. I brought it in two other times, the dealer was not able to find any problem that were transmission related.

...after trying many things on my '92 Dakota 5.3 V8 for the exact same problem, I narrowed it down to the computer. When truck dies or won't start I leave the key in the ON position and tap the 'puter in the bottom left hand corner with a small wrench and when I hear it prime (squirt fuel) it will start right up. May stop again right away and I may have to tap it several times or it may be fine for days or weeks before it does it again. If i've been drinking i'll take the daughters car. Wouldn't want the nice policeman stopping to help me and smell beer on my breath !!!
