Current problems (starter & wiring)
Just a refresher to start with: 93 dak 4x4 5.2L just swapped engines due to cracked heads. New engine from 93 jeep GC 5.2L. Original problem was crank pos sensor, changed that and got started however running very rough and would not idle.
Noticed a smell of fuel in the oil, thought was blowby. Today I changed fuel injectors and did compression test. Comp test varied (dry 112-136) (wet 112-130).
After these two projects I started truck (very difficult start like battery was almost dead, new battery put in 2 days ago has 770 cca) ran fair but had alot of what sounded like preignition pinging as I drove it.
Truck idles now but shut itself off after a few minutes and then the starter acts up again. Also when trying to start it is burning the ground wire to the power brake assist module and making the brake lines way hot. This wire heating stops as soon as the truck starts. I am thinking I must have a hot lead to firewall ground?
Also I no longer have an oil pressure gauge working.
Any ideas or thoughts here would be appreciated.

All this taken care of except the pinging. I have read all the posts on idle issues and will start down the sensor path. Will advise as developments take place. The oil pressure sending sensor had one pin broken off, replaced it and have a gauge again. Starter problem was actually grouding issue as I had no decent firewall to engine ground. That has also been taken care of.
For pinging you can try new plugs and wires cap and rotor. Make sure rotor is in a good postion. Try Autolite 3923's just ask for them by part number. These are 1 range colder than stocks. There is a step 2 lower but you may not need it, those are for superchaged engines.
Now I am really confused, I changed the map, IAC, tps, engine coolant, O2, plugs wires cap and rotor, engine crank sensor, fuel injectors, radiator hoses, heater hoses.
First test drive after the O2 which was last sensor changed, pinging was almost gone, great power and all seemed well, figured it would get better as computer figured everything out. Got about 12 miles and then started overheating and died. Suddenly no spark at all either. Screwed around with the relays and in just a couple of minutes it started back up.
Now the temp gauge said was running a little cool, ran well all the way back home. Tried to go for another ride, got about 10 miles and temp gauge showed overheating again and killed the engine. No Spark. waited 5 minutes and started up again. Temp gauge dropped back down to running cool, drove 1/2 mile died again, no spark, 2 minutes starts again got 2 blocks died, no spark, 1 minute starts drive rest of way home with it pinging and bucking like it did before I changed the O2 sensor.
I think Dakotas should be the national vehicle.

Pulled a code 11 after first test drive and have been intermittently getting a code 27 the last 3 days. Checked the circuits on fuel injectors and all were right on spec. Tried shaking wires and have checked all splices.
I am just at a loss now.

check your CPS wiring I got the same code 11 when I was taken my truck to get smoged looked at my senor and wiring, sensor was cracked and the wiring was all frayed. still in the process of fixing it, but you could have the same problem.

Fox what are you calling CPS? Oh nad where do you live, I was looking at your rebuild post and saw you mention back roads. I live in Utah and spend as much time as I can on backroads, however right now I am scared to death to hit back roads in my dakota.
CPS (Crankshaft Postion Sensor) I live in tulare county, CALI. I usually go up in the serria mountains and go back on bunch of forestry roads with my buddy and his jeep. Not to much fun in the summer but its a blast in the winter with all the mud and snow. Think one time we got up to 8,000ft on one those trails. Another place we go is the dunes at pismo beach another awesome place.
All my trails are probley nothing compared to Utah trails though thats the real 4x4 country.
