Default odd shifting when cold

the tranny seems to not shift as quickly when first starting out when cold. going from first to second it climbs to almost 4000 rpms before shifting from first to second. after a few minutes of driving its back to normal. is ther a linkage or vacuum line that could cause this, maybe a quick adjustment. trucks just over 60 k and the fluid was changed about 33000 miles ago to type 4, about 3.5 years ago.

there is a kickdown adjustment, but I don't think that would help as your trans acts up when cold and not hot, if the kickdown was out of adjustment, I would think it would constant regardless of temp change. You could try warming up the trans before driving by shifting it into neutral and letting it sit for a few minutes

yep change the fluids and filter. try synthetic atf, it works the same at 30c or -30c (roughly 90f to -25f).
