Timing question.
Hope I don't come across like an idiot here. so after a lot of testing and messing w/ electric parts, turns out my timing belt was bad. i had removed the upper cover and the belt looked fine and was taught, so i thought nothing else of it. upon further inspection, i found about 8" of teeth missing off the belt. well in the mean time, i had cranked the engine several times so now the engine is way out of time. i replaced the belt and tried starting it, i get a sluggish crank and after about 4 rotations flame out of the carb/throttle body. so long story short how do i adjust that timing back. basically i have turned the crank while the cam wasnt turning because that is where the belt was broken. if you can figure out this post and know how to adjust the timing after something like this, any help is appreciated.
That sucks. I wasnt sure what engine and year you had. I had to look for the other post you had. 92 4cly
Becarfull when moving the crankshaft and cam shaft. If some valves are down while a piston goes up it can crash and bend valves. It is best at this point to remove the rockers so the valves will be out of the way.
Here is a site that can help. If you need you can find more online manuals in the FAQ in this section. http://www.autozone.com/addVehicleId...07089e#hd1-1-1
It looks like the 2 bottoms gears dots have to face eachother. The top gear dot has to be on top.
