Default Wiring Dakota to tow all types of trailers

My brother has a 1993 2WD 5.2L Dakota and is looking to set it up for towing. He will be towing all types of trailers, some with brakes, some without. I recommended that he install a transmission cooler, a Class 3 Reese Hitch. When it comes to wiring the truck up to handle various trailer types, is there a kit that you can install that, with the use of a few adapters, can be set to tow a variety of trailers? After researching it looks fairly simple to go back to a 4 pin setup with an adapter, but what should I get to wire it up to handle trailers with brakes? Thanks.

Your on the right path. The 7 pin connector is universal sold everywhere with a spacific wireing diagram. Simple to install. This will be what you need for a trailer with electronic brakes. If it dont have electronic brake most likly it will have the 4 pin set up. The one that in in a row has a universal wireing diagram. The round one does have a diagram but I have seen a few that are differnt in the set up.

Its best to get the 7 pin installed. You can get adapter to plug into that and convert it into a 4 pin or so. You can go to most autoparts store and get what you want. If your unsure what you need go to pepboys or uhaul or other shops and they can install the wiring kits and get you the correct adapters you need.
