Engine ID

I have a 5.2 I was told its late 80's but he also said it came from a dakota. I thought they didn't put in 5.2's in the dakota until 91. How do I tell what year it is.

If the engine is out it should be easy to find the date cast on the side of the block. I can not remember if the date is still cast on the intake.

It is out but the 6 didgit number it pretty rusted can't really tell what they are.
