Default what does a vss do?

alright this has been buggin me for a while... what does a vehicle speed sensor do? amongst the problems with my dak, its the only thing to throw a code for some reason.

from what I understand on the OBD1s it is responsible for the spedo, abs (maybe?) and the cruise control (which actually didn't work last i tried)

im hoping something easy to replace like this would help, but I don't wanna drop money on a sensor (again) that won't help.

on a side note, how do you guys like stackon? santa decided it was time to upgrade my tool bag to a two drawer chest.

What code are you getting?
The vehicle speed sensor does output a signal to the speedometer, the PCM, and the transmission control solenoid (automatics).

The ABS relies on its own sensors (for rear-wheel-only AND all-wheel ABS, there is a sensor located on the rear axle housing. For all-wheel ABS, there are also sensors at each front wheel hub.)

The '95 and older have hydraulically controlled transmissions that use a throttle valve cable.

The '96s have the TV cable too.
