all exhaust gaskets are located between the exhaust manifolds and the cylinder heads .... or...
at the meeting between the exhaust pipes and the engine (in more plain english)...
it's common for some shops/people that rebuild motors to not put in an exhaust gasket. some say that you can torque the manifold to the head with enough pressure that it won't leak... it makes sense that it can be done on very smooth surfaces, but why not take the extra ten seconds and install the gasket.
