sure grip

Default sure grip

hi i was just wondering if any one knows if the sure grip from a mid 60's to mid 70's 7 1/4 would fit in the front axle of the 1gen dakota as it to has a 7 1/4 just wondering as i cant seem to find any one that makes a new one for our daks sure grip or locker.. any1 have any thoughts on this??? thanks

I would not put a limited slip diff or locker in the front axle unless you use the truck for offroading only. Most people put an electric or air locker in the front if they need something so that on the road they can turn it off. When you go around a sharp turn the difference in the rates of the two front wheels is a greater difference than that of the two back wheels and from what I've heard can be too great a difference than the limited slip allows. You don't want to find your front axle locking up in the middle of a turn or you will likely crash.

Ya its not best to lock the front, a lsd is a better option but not for IFS. But I would think a lsd from a older versoin may work. On most sites I saw they only listed one set of specs. A rear locker would be best for traction. You dont need much more than that. A LSD for the rear is great for the street but for most traction the locker will be your choise.
