Default key stuck in ignition

so i am new to this site but i have a 93 dodge dakota and i let my little brother use my truck for awhile and to say the least the reason he stopped driving it was because he ran it into a tree. I wanted to kill him but im working on trying to get it fixed and so i was messing around with the truck and found that he had also broke the key off in the ignition and i have been messing with it for two hours trying to get the broke off key out of there if anyone could give me some insight on how i can get the key out i would internally greatful.

ya might want to try a pair of hemostats with thin ends or ya might be able to grind then down thin enough to pull the broken end out,,sometimes it works sometime it doesn't,,depending on how much of the key ya can see and if ya can get a bite on it with them,,then the dealer can make ya a key from your vin number,,most hardware or stores that cut keys won't try.. or can't cut a broken key.. this i know from experience..lol..lol

You could just get a new lock and tumbler from autozone or oreilly's. Ive had to replace it twice in the 3 years that ive had the truck. The original one failed then the aftermarket one failed still under warrenty. One my second lock and tumbler and still going strong. They are only about twenty bucks with tax and come with instructions and two new keys. http://www.oreillyauto.com/EW3/Produ...&currentPage=4

they make a key removal tool that is a really thin little hook, i got it with my lock pick set. works pretty good, a lock smith might have one.
