Default HEADLIGHT SWITCHE WOES

93 Dak. This will be the 3rd one in 2 years that I've replaced. This last one lasted the longest. Going along tonight coming home from work and lights start flickering on and off. I changed to lowbeams and they got me home.
Prior to this I smelt something burning, albeit faintly. Switch didn't feel hot to the touch.

Is this common? First 2 switches were Autozone, the last one was a "Standard Ignition" brand, Bumper to Bumper.

Thoughts?

maybe it is the plug not the switch. Had a problem with a blower switch like that and ended up it was a bad terminal in the plug.
