2x4 to 4x4 question
I was just wondering how hard it would be to convert a 1993 2x4 dakota to 4x4 using the parts from my 91 4x4. Mine as some already know has frame issues, and i was originally going to try and repair it, which i still might do, at least till this winter is over, but i may have a chance to get a 1993 dakota 2wd with a bad motor that originally came from virginia really cheap (got to love the army guys up north of here), and according to the guy who has it, it isnt in that bad of shape. I am going up to look at it this weekend. What i want to do is take the front differential and related parts, motor, trans and t-case and put it in the 2wd, but im not sure if everything from mine will bolt up to that frame without major modification or not.
The frames are different, and as far as I know not compatible. The 2wd and 4wd have different suspension/steering setups in the front and I believe the leaf spring mounts in the back are different (because the 2wd is axle over spring and 4wd is axle under spring). There are probably a few other differences as well. Crazy4x4RT did a 2wd to 4wd swap on his truck but used a 4wd frame.

Thats what i keep hearing. I think for now im just gonna use this one for plowing, and then after everything else is taken care of look for a newer dakota, and put my plow on it. Thank you for the info.
The early modles are a little differnt from the newer. If you have the time I would say go for it. To make it easyer make sure the cab and bed are the same like dual cab or short bed. Then you can swap out the frames. The only differnce I know of is the raidator area. To see what I did check out. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...x2-to-4x4.html
