Default Hows this for irony...

So a guy on craigslist was selling a NV3500 manual transmission with the transfer case and everything I need to swap my auto to a manual (pedal, master cyl, fluid lines, flywheel, clutch, etc). So I drove a couple hours to go pick it up and was on my way home down I-40 running 70+ mph and one of my trans cooler lines broke in half and started pouring out trans fluid. I didn't realize it until the trans started to slip cause I was going so fast I couldn't smell it and it was dark so I couldn't see all the smoke pouring out the back. By the time I got the next exit (cause I really didn't want to stop on the side of the interstate) the truck would barely crawl forward. I had to baby it into a gas station. The whole situation would have pissed me off but I found the irony kind of funny.... I go to buy a transmission to swap into my truck and roast the one thats in it on my way home.

I only had to get it towed a little over 100 miles .... but gotta love AAA!

I won't get my hopes up, but I am hoping the trans isn't toast cause I wanted to sell it and hopefully break even on the swap.

P.S. I'll be writing up a detailed post about the swap swap that I'll post as soon as I get the swap done.

LOL! That is how I killed my tranny this time last year. It was 6 deg. outside and it busted under high pressure and the cold temp.

That will be a sweet swap. I deffently want to know how it goes and how much more power you free up without the auto. and the lower 1st gear.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I wonder if it was the cold weather around here, we got a small snow storm last night. My only other thought is that I just put a body lift on the truck this past weekend and could have messed up the lines somehow when I was lifting the cab, but I don't really see how that could have happened.

Hopefully if anything useful comes out of this post it will convice ppl to check those lines!

I'm kind of wishing that I would have done a auto to manual swap. But, the transmission was acting fine when I was able to drive it after the change.

Pretty ironic though. Hope the swap goes well for you.

I'm only going to get a new computer if the mopar performance computer I have now acts up when it doesn't see a transmission but I'm hoping I won't have to.

Update... tomorrow I'm pulling the transmission to put the nv3500 in my truck, so this evening I replaced the broken hose and filled the 46rh back up with fluid to see if I fried it or not, and it works! It took 5 quarts to fill it up. I'm glad I didn't fry it cause I want to sell it and try to break even with what I paid for the manual.

Also, the reason the hose broke is because when I put the 2 inch body lift on the truck it flexed the hose, and being 14 years old and dry rotted, it didn't like being stretched. So... anyone looking to do a body lift, be sure to check all hoses that must stretch to make sure they can take it.
