if you have the chrysler 8.25 i would suggest going up to the 8.75 or a 9.25, ive had multiple problems with my 8.25 and have already swapped it out once and it is making noise and has a lot of play somewhere in it i think im going to just weld it all up for now until i can get a 9.25 or a chevy 14 bolt

Even though this thread is starting to get older,
I was wondering if with the three different axle ratios that were stock, if any of them only came a certain way, like a specific ratio only was available with a limited slip or only available with an open differential
If thats true does anyone know which ones?

As far as I know there were no ratios only on certain models. The LSD came on any combos.

Oh, how would the axle housing then look compared to an open diff, since i heard a limited slip cant fit in a stock open diff housing

It does fit in the same diff. I know chevys came with a tag stating it is a LSD. But Im not too sure if ours did. The best way to tell is to lift the wheels and spin one tire. If the other tire turns the same way it is an LSD. Or you can always open her up.

Then why do i remember someone saying that you cant take the open diff out and put a limited slip in its place?
and for checking it by lifting the *** end, Should i have it in park or nuetral?, and what about putting it in a drive gear while at idle and grabbin a wheel

I don't know why you remember that. Some diffs may be like that but not this one. Put it in neutral and engine off. If the engine is on and in gear, even at Idle It could still tare your hand off if you try to hold it. Not to mention if it slips off the jack stands and runs you over.

I dont see how it could tare a persons hand up or off just going 5-10MPH unless open diffs will still hold under a hands amount of pressure but i can see how it could give you a decent rug burn or whatever the hell they call that (I know ive had one down my side because i tripped on a motorised treadmill as a midget(kid) and it was agaist the wall and i got wedged between that and the wall and left a good sized red blotch down my side for awhile)
To tell you the truth it would sound funny to hear about someone getting run over by there own vehicle at idle speed with know one in the drivers seat but that would suck ***, and would suck to tell people why youd possibly temporarily looked like ****

ALso, even if you had limited slip you hae to keep in mind the pressures involved. I doubt the little bit of pressure you put on by hand would be enough to engage the slip mechanism.

Just do it the easy way and spin it by hand.
