Default 1987 3.9L Looking For Solutions

First lat me start by admitting my average at best mechanical skills.
But what I do have are tools, a haynes manual and no fear! I mean sometimes you gotta say what the hell and go for it, right? So as I said I have a 1987 w/ 3.9L V6 and from what my friend/neighbor told me is to find out what options I have as far as possible conversions or swaps before we go ripping this engine apart? I know this car was built during the "emissions" years and it seems like every time I see modified engines they look much simpler than what's under my hood now. I don't mean that to sound dumb but are there options for me to swap this engine, or rebuild it in a more basic state if you know what I mean. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

a v6 to v8 swap is somewhat easy and not much is required. there is more info in the faq section of this forum. engine mounts are the same in a v6 as a v8. all you basically need, is time, money, an engine, tranny, few extra wires for the 2 new injectors and 2 new injectors, and a fuel pump. i dno, read more in the faq section

I know the '87's were cramped for space under the hood, but if you swap in the core support and grill from a '91-'96 it would give you a little more breathing room especially for the fan, or you could do an electric fan and save your front end, options are almost endless, definitely try to get something carbed if you can, get rid of the emissions crap, and have fun, oh and make sure you have a transmisson that can put up with the extra power!

Thanks guys!

I guess I should have said up front that the engine is carburated with the 2bbl carburator. And I hate the fact that the exhaust manifold on the passenger's side has that "heated air" pipe on it. Is there a good resource for buying remanufactured or new parts at a decent price? Also are there other Dodge motors that will bolt up easily that won't have all that emissions crap?

1987
3.9L V6
Automatic w/2WD

Thanks again!

Id personaly would rather get a carbed 318 and a transmission to match because I wouldnt want to deal with all the computer crap related with the fuel injection set up
